Regenerative Leadership and a need for reform

Director General of the IBO's apparent support for the principles of Regenerative Leadership. In the first photo, you'll see Theo Wyne, an IB teacher at UWC Costa Rica, presenting a copy of Regenerative Leadership to Olli-Pekka Heinonen, with the request to deliver it personally to Jan Dijkstra at Ecolint in Geneva, Switzerland.

It's worth noting that UWC Costa Rica is positioning itself to be one of the world's most environmentally progressive UWC IBO schools, with plans for a new campus, a fresh strategic plan, and an updated mission statement. On the other hand, Ecolint holds a special place as the very first IBO school, often considered the birthplace of the IBO, with a mission emphasizing internationalism in education.

These photos encapsulate profound symbolism: a message of optimism from one fervent teacher, representing a school dedicated to environmentalism and empathy, to another passionate educator (Jan, serving as a sustainability coordinator) at a school emblematic of the IBO's historical and ongoing emphasis on internationalism. This exchange underscores the necessity for the IBO to transition towards a new mission statement that harmonizes these two school missions: environmentalism/empathy and international education. This alignment, is pivotal to the entire reform project. Presently, the IBO's official mission statement overlooks any mention of the environment and empathy (including student mental health), prompting the need for advocacy and change!

Are you a student, teacher, parent, or administrator frustrated with the slow pace of change at the IBO concerning the urgent need to address the youth mental health crisis and climate crisis? Do you have innovative ideas for how the IBO could be reformed? We invite you to share your thoughts with us!
