Regenerative Leadership and a need for reform
On the left the IBO Director General, Olli-Pekka Heinonen receives a copy of Regenerative Leadership from Theo Wyne, an IB DP teacher at UWC Costa Rica. Theo asked Olli-Pekka to deliver the book personally to Jan Dijkstra at Ecolint in Geneva, Switzerland (right photo).
UWC Costa Rica is one of the world's most environmentally progressive UWC IBO schools, with a new campus, strategic plan, and an updated mission statement. On the other hand, Ecolint holds a special place as the very first IBO school, and is often considered the birthplace of the IBO, with a mission emphasizing internationalism in education.
The IBO needs a new mission statement that harmonizes these two school missions and value systems: environmentalism/empathy and international education. Presently, the IBO's official mission statement overlooks any mention of the environment and empathy (including student mental health). This needs to change.
